Wondering how to say our new name, bettyquette? This post explains exactly that and gives you an insight into how and why we created the name. Enjoy!

How do you prounounce the word bettyquette?

Before we get to the answer, let’s have a quick chat about how and why we came up with the name in the first place.

The reasons why we had to change our name are explained in this post – why we changed our name from Skin Boss to bettyquette When it came to choosing a new name, the struggle was real.

After coming up with a few names we quickly discovered that everything and anything to do with skin, skincare or the beauty industry in general is taken.

Our IP lawyer advised us that the best, and possibly only, way to get the all important trademark tick of approval was to come up with a word that didn’t exist.

Um, ok then. That shouldn’t be too difficult.

Except, for this former school teacher it was extremely difficult. As someone who taught young children how to read and write I just couldn’t get my head around the fact that I now had to ignore all the grammar rules and devise a word that either

  1. Had an obvious spelling mistake in it or
  2. didn’t actually exist yet.

It took MONTHS of trying to come up with a word and in the end I decided that blending two words together to make one would probably be the best solution.

After all those months of scribbling various letter combinations on pieces of paper, replacing letters in exisiting words (think a Z instead of an S) I was lying in bed one night, not able to sleep, when I said out loud,

“What about bettyquette?”

Scott’s response? “I love it.”

He got it straight away. I didn’t need to explain that it was betty (my grandma’s name) and etiquette combined. That is represented not only everything our brand is – simple, effective, kind, caring – but everything life should be too.

Then I found this definition of Betty via Urban Dictionary and I couldn’t believe what I was reading.

betty is educated, deep, witty, simple and young at heart.

She is naturally beautiful, honest, brave, loyal and nurturing.

She is the whole package; balanced, quirky, open-minded, complex and flawed.

She can be raw with her words, and gentle with her touch.

She is soulful, connected and driven. A modern day triple-threat, a go-getter. (Urban Dictionary, 2013)

Betty might’ve been my grandma but Betty is also you and Betty is also me.

Bettyquette is honest, natural beauty for the betty in all of us.

So now that we know bettyquette is betty and etiquette combined, the easiest way to pronounce it is

Depending on where you live and what accent you might have, bettyket also works.

I hope that helps. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
