When people hear the name of our face oil brand SkinBoss for the first time the reaction is usually, “LOVE the name! How did you come up with it?”

Coming up with the name was quite a lengthy process. So let’s go back to the beginning.

why the name SkinBoss?

If you’ve read the SkinBoss story – you can catch up on it here – you’ll know that our all natural face oils are created, blended and distributed by both myself and my husband Scott.

We’re a team and everything we do is for each other and our kids.

So when I was trying to come up with a name for our business – or Start Up as a new business on the block is known as these days – I really wanted a name that would somehow reflect or incorporate our family.

I spent weeks thinking of all sorts of names and frantically typing them into the notes section on my phone whenever a new one would pop into my head.

At night, while I was watching TV – just between you and me, The Real Housewives of Anywhere is my show of choice – I’d rattle names off whenever Scott or the kids would walk into the lounge room.

“All Yours? Be Yours? Just Yours?” I’d not so quietly shout over what is possibly the world’s loudest dishwasher, to whichever family member happened to be walking past.

“Um, how exactly do any of those fit in with our family?” might come the reply, depending on whether the post-dinner Oreos snuck from the pantry were shoved in a pocket or a mouth.

“Yeah, you’re right. They don’t” I’d sigh, before started the not so creative process again.

This went on for quite sometime, until one night two words came to me.

I sat bolt upright, looked at Scott and said, “What about SkinBoss?”

“I like it!” came the reply.

“Me too. Hang on a tick I need to type it into my phone before my old lady brain forgets it.”

And as I typed the letters S K I N   B O S S into my phone, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“OMG. Are you seeing what I’m seeing?!”

“I’m going to go with a no?” came the slightly high-pitched reply from Scott. “What should I be seeing exactly?”

“Look at the letters!  I can’t believe it.  Look! S = Scott  K = Kirsten I N   B = Bailey  O  S = Sophie  S = Smith  All of our initials are in there!  They’re staring right back at us!”

“Huh. Would you look at that,” replied Scott as he looked the capital letters typed into my phone. “Well done Smith. I think you’ve just come up with the perfect name.”
